Associated members of Intersteno approved by the General Assemblies


Several associations applied for membership in the INTERSTENO federation. According to Article 5.5 of the Statutes, the involved National Groups, if existing, were informed in due time about the application for memberships. No objections or remarks arrived.  


NVRA (USA)

The National Verbatim Reporters Association (NVRA) is a non-profit, professional membership organization, representing voice writing verbatim reporters in the USA. Official court reporters, deposition reporters, broadcast captioners, providers of real time communication services for the hearing-impaired are members.

Voice writing verbatim reporters make real time records of spoken words and actions using speech recognition and other related technologies.

GZOS (Russia)

GZOS is the only Russian stenography training centre, established in 1941. Through their membership of Intersteno the GZOS hopes to get more worldwide information on shorthand, typing and business organization. The activities of the GZOS are teaching and distant teaching of shorthand, typing and business organization.

African Verbatim Reporters (Cameroon)

The activity fiel of the African Verbatim reporters (Mr. Pius Onana) is situate in reporting, training and consulting:

  • as promoting the use and culture of reporting in Africa and in UN administration and management policy,
  • as training more Africans in order to meet better job opportunities and to promote the use of new technologies in reporting
  • as assisting parliaments, tribunals, television and so on in reporting activities.
  • The activity field of the African Verbatim Reporters is situated in reporting, training and consulting.

Scuola Galotta, Potenza Italy

The Scuola Galotta, starting its activities in 1960, aims to prepare good abilities in shorthand and typewriting, but followed the huge development in our technologies with training courses in informatics, stenotype and speech recognition. In 1990 a branch of the school was entirely devoted to court and assembly reporting. The founder and principal of the Scuola Galotta, prof. Teodosio Galotta participates at Intersteno congresses since 1965. Several students of his school took part in Intersteno competitions. In 1995 prof. Galotta presented in Amsterdam a study concerning the rationalisation of the computer keyboarding for the Italian language. The school was also involved with support and sponsoring in the Organization Committee of the 44th Intersteno Congress in Rome.

Stenotype Italia srl, Sesto Fiorentino Italy

This firm was established in 1975 with main goal to foster the use of the stenotype technology following the Italian system of Prof. Marcello Melani. They are marketing the steno machines, teaching trainers of this technology and supporting training programs for schools and associations. They support the subtitling group of the Italian national public television network (RAI). Stenotype Italia has also activities in Argentina and other South American countries since prof. Melani adapted his method of stenotype for Spanish and Portuguese. Prof. Melani always supported the Intersteno activity and took part at several Intersteno congresses in which he presented reports and fostered and sponsored the participation of Italian stenotype competitors who succeeded in the fast-transcription competition. Stenotype Italia supported and sponsored the activity of the Italian group which organized the Congress in Rome 2003 and Prof. Melani was appointed member of the managing group of this event.

Word Technologies LLC (USA)

Word Technologies LLC, represented by Mr. Dan Glassman is an American firm working in the field of shorthand machines with dedicated software for reporters, known as the Eclipse-software, adapted for several languages. Mr. Glassmann participated at several Intersteno Congresses, already for longer time.

Stenographers Guild in Madras (India)

The Stenographers Guilde, represented by Mr. Ramaswamy, started already in 1937 with her activities of training in high speed writing with manual Pitman shorthand. Every day 600 to 700 students are visiting their school, open 7 days a week from early in the morning until evening. Training for reporters, journalists, police men and call centres are given. The Stenographers Guilde promotes a shorthand system of Walter Kistler, industrial from the United States, who adapted a German-Swiss system to the English language.

Audioscribe Corporation (USA)

Audioscribe have been operating since 1997, when their first system using speech recognition was sold. Since then, their software has made tremendous improvements for the benefit of speech writers.

Educating the customer has always been a major focus for this company, and they are proud of additting E-Learning to their educational resources.

Chad W.J. Theriot is the CEO and Chief Technical Officer of The AudioScribe Corporation. Mr. Theriot developed the SpeechCAT Pro Software in 1997. He has over twenty years of experience in designing, developing, implementing and training for software applications. Mr. Theriot often speaks at events both in the United States and abroad to educate professionals from around the world about speech recognition technology for the reporting industry.

1966-1970: Secretary/accountant in a private company in charge with correspondence and book-keeping.

1971-March 2001: Office for official publications of the European Communities. Sales Department.

1. Until 1977: Clerk in charge of sales of single publications. Contact with customers and other bodies of the European Communities.
2. From 1978: Secretary to the Head of unit of the Sales department,   in charge of correspondence (including use of shorthand), preparation of contracts, participation in meetings and drawing up of the minutes.

From April 2001 to date: Office for official publications of the European Communities. Secretary to the Head of unit 'Author services unit'. Beside general assistance to the head of unit, she is in charge of correspondence (including use of shorthand), registration of the correspondence of the whole unit, all questions relating to the staff, telephone etc.

She works   in different languages (FR, DE, EN, ES, IT, SV). Beside this activies, and during 20 years (1974-1994), teaching of typewriting on behalf of the Ministry of Education.

For the time being she is learning two new languages (Chinese and Czech).

AAERT is the national professional association for electronic / digital court reporters and transcribers in the United States.
